Every drop of water counts! The Karalee Water Catchment System was built back in the late 1800’s to catch the rain flow runoff from two very large granite rocks. The rocks are surrounded by an 800mm high wall, with an opening that leads to a cross-country flume and aquaduct system that then leads to a dam.The water was then pumped 3.6 kms south to tanks at a railway station. The Karalee Rocks System was the fourth largest in the Eastern Goldfields and was heraled as one of the most ambitious and successful engineering feats on the late 19th Century. It is also a great Free Campsite, though donations are most welcome also for the upkeep of the site. It’s easily accessible to all types of vans via a gravel road with large roomy sites at the dam.

Worth a look on the road from Kalgoorlie to Perth. You can swim in the dam, or just let the little fish nibble your feet. The most amazing part, it the way rain was collected for the steam trains servicing the goldfields in the early days

Nice spot to park and stretch the legs, nice views too but there is nothing here for tourists, no seat, nothing, even parking is left up to your imagination.

Don't forget to check out the view from the top! Well worth the inland detour!
